Verizon Surplus Information

SURPLUS DECLARED BY VERIZON

Friday April 23, 2010

As you are all aware, the Committee of Eight representatives from CWA District One, District Two and District 13, IBEW New England and IBEW New Jersey, have been meeting with high level Verizon Management team since last Friday. The Unions made it quite clear that we would not continue talking if the Company's position was that they were going to violate our contract by refusing to abide by the surplus reduction language including contracting that is part of our contract.     The Company agreed to abide by our contact and we reached an agreement on a one time enhanced off payroll late Wed night. The dates for this EIPP packages  have not been determined yet. Once they are available, we will have them to you.  The highlights are as follows:

ONE TIME SUPPLEMENTAL VOLUNTARY TERMINATION BONUS $40,000.00 added to the existing 10,000.00 RAISING OF THE CAPS ON THE IPP PAYMENT

members with greater than 30 years of service will have their IPP payment capped at 40 years rather than 30 years.                  Your browser may not support display of this image.

     MONDAY April 12, 2010

In both this Local and CWA we have always taken the position that we did not bargain to get people off the payroll.  What we do bargain is to get more work into Local so that we can protect those members who choose to stay. What we also have done is put provisions into the contract to give monetary enhancements to those people who choose to leave under a surplus condition.

In Verizon's "Good Friday" message, it appears that the leadership of both IBEW and CWA want to deny its members Verizon's generosity.  You as members know that nothing is farther from the truth.  Again this Friday, Verizon covered the memberships on the contractual IPP offer before it notifies the Union. As always, once this Local receives official notification on the dates around the IPP offer we will put it on the tape. Please call your ABM or the Union office at 800 796-1646
